20 things I have learned

20 THINGS I’VE LEARNED BY STAYING HOME FOR  20 DAYS

The days of #SocialDistancing has for me, so far, has been a time of revelation.

Here are 20 things I’ve learned by socially distancing for 20 days:

ONE: LEARNING IS OFTEN ABOUT REMEMBERING

When it comes to wisdom, “learning” is more about remembering what we’ve always known. So, much of what I’ve learned these past twenty days of social distancing have been revelations from my soul that came because I tuned in to my heart.

TWO: SOCIAL DISTANCING IS NOT SOCIAL ISOLATION

We may be physically distanced but have seen an entire world that is connecting to each other more deeply than perhaps ever before. It is one of life’s funny paradoxes. We are physically separated but we are alone together and perhaps more connected than we’ve been for a long time.

THREE: THERE IS A RIGHT TIME FOR EVERYTHING

It may seem like the time is never right.   Maybe you know you need to let go of something, whether it’s a relationship, a career or a bad habit but you’ve convinced yourself that your too busy and told yourself that “this is not the right time”.

This period of social distancing may be the opening and space we need to make positive changes. We are in the midst of something Eckhart Tolle has called: “forced stillness”. This is the time to go within hear the voice of our heart.

FOUR: LIFE CAN BE LIKE A MEDITATION

In the midst of this chaos, I have realized that it is possible to simply observe what’s going on in the world. This can be done without being reactive and without judgment. We have the power to let experience be simply experience – just the way we let thoughts be simply  thoughts.

FIVE: GRATITUDE = HAPPINESS

No matter what circumstance we are in, we always have something to be grateful for. It doesn’t have to be anything big – it could be something as simple and wonderful as spending quality time talking with a good friend or taking a walk in nature.

Gratitude for what we have in our life right now creates happiness in the moment. And this moment is all there really is anyway.

SIX: HAVING NOTHING TO DO BREEDS CREATIVITY

During this period, I’ve noticed a massive increase in inspired creativity. I’ve seen people around me and all over the internet embracing the thought:

“Well, I’m in this social distancing situation anyway… I might as well make the most of it and have as much fun as possible”.  People are creating new ways of working, socializing, creating art and so much more.

SEVEN: WHEN WE SEE WE SEE

One single choice or insight can change the whole trajectory of our lives simply because we see something – a truth –  we could not see before. And what we see cannot be unseen.

EIGHT: POSITIVE REFRAMING IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE

Even when we find ourselves in the midst of chaos and painful situations, it is possible to reframe the situation. Adversity is often a catalyst for an awakening, so if you feel challenged during this time of social distancing try to look at it with curiosity:

  • “What wants to be healed?”
  • “What needs to change?”
  • “What am I meant to learn from this situation?”

This time of social distancing can be reframed as an amazing opportunity for personal and collective growth as well as a time to create a whole new life that is aligned with your soul.

NINE: WE HAVE TO BE AUTHENTIC

It truly is like Dalai Lama says: If we are not being ourselves, we cannot be of service. There are accidents in the Universe. You are exactly who you are meant to be, and we need everyone to show themselves as they truly are. We are all unique parts of this infinite masterpiece and every single soul is a valuable aspect of the whole.

TEN: WE ARE MEANT TO BE LOVED

When we have the courage to be ourselves, we attract people who love us for who we truly are. Then, we don’t have to settle for being “liked” because we will feel LOVED. Yes, LOVED in big capital letters. And this kind of love is the most beautiful experience in the world.

ELEVEN: LOVE IS THE TRUTH

Everything, even the most challenging times like the one we are in now, is happening for us. The idea that unconditional love is the only truth can be hard to connect with but it’s in the pain that we realize who we are and what we can handle. Adversity guides us home to our soul.

TWELVE: WE ARE THE ONES HOLDING OURSELVES BACK

Old patterns and negative habitual thinking as well as unresolved emotions in our psyche is what is holding us back from everything we desire. When we let go of all the layers of crap we’ve accumulated in our lives, there’s nothing left to hold us back. Then we are free.

THIRTEEN: JOY IS PURPOSE ENOUGH

“Life is like a piece of art” Alan Watts says. And we create art for the purpose of enjoyment. We dance for the purpose dancing. So, when we create a life so full of joy that we feel like we are dancing then we are truly living. So, go and join the dance!

FOURTEEN: LIFE IS TRULY A GIFT

During this time of social distancing I have been still enough to remember what a gift life truly is. How much there is to experience, how much joy there is to feel and how many meaningful connections there are to have. We are here to celebrate our lives!

FIFTEEN: WE MUST GO WITH THE WAVES

When we move with life instead of against it, we spare ourselves a lot of struggle. The key to being comfortable with this is to know that life is LOVE and that when change occurs the old will be replaced with always be replaced with something that is a higher frequency.

SIXTEEN: EVERY MOMENT IS A NEW MOMENT

Every moment is a new a new moment. A new beat. And we have the opportunity to create new habits or a new life right now – all we have to do is choose it.

SEVENTEEN: SOMETIMES WE SIMPLY HAVE TO TRUST

Sometimes life forces us into a new relationship with faith. This time of social distancing is one of those times where we realize that the conscious mind does not control everything. Sometimes we have to surrender and trust that we’re being taken care of.  It can be a time of spiritual awakening where we have to try our wings and trust that they are working.

EIGHTEEN: KNOWING OUR ‘WHY’ IS KEY

When we decide to create a new habit, or do anything in life, it’s important to know why we are doing it. If we are doing something because we think we should or for the purpose of getting external validation, it will not bring fulfillment.

When we take action from a place of self-love and find the courage to let our heart guide us, life becomes magical.

NINETEEN: WHEN WE HEAL OURSELVES, WE HEAL OTHERS

When we heal ourselves, we automatically show up differently in the world. This causes a positive ripple effect beyond measure. We emit a healing energy frequency. When we show up from a place of Love, we invite others in. When we heal, we invite others to heal.

TWENTY: WE ARE IN NO HURRY

We are all where we are meant to be in life, and no one is being left behind. Relax, sing and do life at our own pace. We can allow ourselves to enjoy the big and small moments, the pain and the bliss and see the beauty in all of it. The magnificence of life is ready to be fully explored and experienced!
