Our families, and the people present during our formative years, greatly impact our lives and how we see the world, so I’m so excited to share this conversation with you. Today on The Soul Frequency, I sat down with the incredible Elaine Carney Gibson to learn all about family systems and how to release ourselves of the patterns that have sometimes been passed down through multiple generations.

Elaine has been a practicing psychotherapist specializing in relationship therapy for fifty years. She sees individuals, families, and couples and is a director of the Marriage and Family Therapy Training Institute of The Link Counselling Center. She has just released her first book ‘Your Family Revealed: A Guide to Decoding the Patterns, Stories, and Belief Systems in Your Family’.

In this conversation, we discuss the many complicated layers of family systems, beginning with Elaine’s journey into this work before deep-diving into patterns such as the feedback loop, the symptom bearer, and the impacts they have. We then discuss releasing yourself from these dynamics through awareness, forming a sense of self, and setting clear boundaries.
