I am not sure I ever claimed emotional eating. Yet, in my younger years I was consistently using food to not feel painful feelings such as fear, anger, sadness, and disappointment.
Through my deeply personal one-on-one work with women, I have realized that our society does not teach us how to move through our emotions in a healthy manner. This begins in childhood.
Emotions can be scary. They can feel big. Let’s face it, no one is cheering us on for getting angry. No one encourages us to take an hour out of our busy schedule to cry when we desperately need it. How many times have you been driving in your car, talking on the phone, or sitting at work; and something moves you to the brink of tears? We are conditioned to do everything we can to hold back emotions. We don’t want our make up to run or others to see us crying.
In our world, healthy emotion is rare. So what do we do with all of this pent up emotion? Where does it go and how do we release it?
